Golden Sparkles loves to roam, and rarely stays still long enough to take a picture!

Golden Sparkles has been in the Riverside School courtyard for at least the past three years, although it has likely been there longer. It is one of the most easily seen of all the turtles, even though it’s small. Golden Sparkles might be about halfway to growing up, so we won’t be sure if it is a male or female for several more years. It’s also an unusual turtle because its microsatellites don’t exactly appear to link up perfectly with any set of parents, which could either be the result of some unusual error in the sequencing process, or because somebody released it into the courtyard from outside. Only additional testing will help us determine which answer is right.

After you try the microsatellite game below, keep scrolling to see Golden Sparkles on top of Mr. Putty in June 2013!
