Although Star might be one of the original baby turtles that Mark Eastburn found in the Riverside courtyard in 2011, this was way before any of the turtles was extensively studied (or named), so there is no way to be sure. Now that this turtle has a name and a very recognizable shell, we will be able to keep track of it whenever it appears (which so far hasn’t been very often).
Star probably hatched in the courtyard, although its “faded” shell pattern is different from many of the others, so it will surely be interesting if we can determine who its parents (and siblings) are! Please search for this turtle’s parents by comparing the microsatellites below, and be sure to try several different “moms” and “dads” to be sure. Oh, and if you aren’t sure what microsatellites are, please click here.
Remember: not getting a match is just as helpful as matching, because we only want to find one mother and one father… otherwise we can’t tell who the parents are! Please pay careful attention to the numbers and letters, try several different parents, and when you’re done, please answer the questions below.
